Peak Time for Fall Leaves in Jasper, Arkansas: 2020

The Smoky Mountains Region recently released their annual Fall Foliage Prediction Map for the United States. The peak time for colorful leaves in Jasper, Arkansas is projected to be around November 2nd. This date lines up with previous years, where the peak fall colors occurred during the first week of November.

That isn’t to say the first week of November is only time to see fall foliage near Jasper though. As some trees have already started changing colors, and even at the end of November, you can see some beautiful orange tones on remaining leaves.

If you are looking to visit Jasper, there are some great hikes located just a few minutes from town. This creates a great opportunity to see the leaves and dine out, all in the same day. One of our favorite hiking trails close to Jasper is Round Top Mountain. The trail offers north and south facing views, including a great view of downtown Jasper.

Round Top Mountain Trail is located 2.4 miles south of Jasper on HWY 7. You will see the signage and the entrance on the right-hand side, if you are driving south. The trail has various upper and lower loops, totaling close to 3 miles. There is a nice parking area, with a few picnic tables as well.

Closely located to Round Top Mountain is Scenic Point, which features a lookout tower you can walk up to get a fantastic view of the surrounding Ozark Mountains. Scenic Point is located 3.6 miles south of Jasper on HWY 7. It is a very popular stop for tourist driving though. Be sure to bring your camera!

Finally, the Buffalo River Trail at Pruitt and the Koen Experimental Forest are two more great trails to check out. Both trails are located a few minutes from Jasper. The Buffalo River Trail at Pruitt features a large picnic area with tables next to the river. The Buffalo River Trail at Pruitt is located 5.6 miles north of Jasper on HWY 7. The Koen Experimental Forest spans 720-acres and features a walking trail that is wheelchair accessible. The trail access road is located 3 miles north of Jasper on HWY 7.
